Often seen at the entrances of pagodas and temples in Myanmar and other Southeast Asian countries, it shares similarities to legends of Singapore where a lion-like creature was seen by a Palembang prince who gave the name “Lion City” to the island that is now the world renowned Singapore.

 

“CHINTHE” (pronounced 'chin-thay') refers to the leogryph or the lion-like creature in Myanmar.
